How does air conditioning work?
A split air conditioning system uses refrigerant to absorb heat from the air inside a room as it passes over the indoor unit’s coil. The refrigerant carries that heat to the outdoor unit, which releases it outside, and the cooled air is circulated back into the room. Most modern systems can run in reverse to heat as well.
Is air conditioning worth having in the UK?
For many homes and most workplaces, yes. Hot spells are becoming more frequent, and rooms such as lofts, extensions, conservatories and home offices can overheat even in a mild summer. Because most systems also heat efficiently, they’re used for much of the year, not just in heatwaves.
What’s the difference between air conditioning and an air-to-air heat pump?
They’re largely the same equipment. A reverse-cycle split system is an air-to-air heat pump: it cools in summer and moves heat indoors in winter. “Air conditioning” usually describes the cooling side.
How much does air conditioning cost in Manchester?
